Guadalcanal

Guadalcanal, often referred to as The Mainland by locals, is the most populated and one of the largest islands in the country and is home to the capital city Honiara.  With a population of nearly 85,000 people, Honiara is a large city by Solomon Islands’ standards and has a fantastic range of things to do and see.  With much of the island covered in thick tropical rainforest it is a favourite destination for eco-tourists and the mountainous interior has lots of rugged and remote terrain for treks to explore.  You can find serene and picturesque beaches to enjoy, stunning diving and snorkelling spots, the National Museum, a dedicated War Museum and the Central Markets have a great range of fresh produce for sale.
